"Cloud Database Vendors: What, us worry about Microsoft? "
Web database vendors claim they aren't worried by Microsoft Corp.'s just announced SQL Server Data Services offering, saying their services are sufficiently established, different, and/or better than Redmond's to enable them to thrive when SSDS is released -- according to the current schedule, in the first half of next year. "Tech Startup of the Month"
For many of its users, Trackvia’s scalable online database replaces the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, which McAdams labeled "the de facto database" for recording and sharing information in corporate America. "That leaves a lot to be desired," he noted: Excel spreadsheets are not searchable or flexible.(click to read more...)

"Online database excellence"
Hosted, Web-enabled databases are, if anything, a hotter topic than ever. The ability for anyone to construct a reasonably complex database complete with customized forms and reports when few if any database skills creates a whole new world of business opportunities. Since this market started to take shape there has been a flood of contenders, some weak, some very good. "Today’s newsletter focus, Trackvia, is in the excellent category." (click to read more...)

"The Database meets Web 2.0"
Tracking and managing the various streams of data running through a small company can often feel like trying to herd cats. And while spreadsheets and desktop databases can help, they're often difficult to use and limited in scope. Trackvia, a new company with a product by the same name, seeks to remedy that situation with an online solution that marries database function with Web-based ease-of-use.(click to read more...)

Database Trends and Applications, August 21, 2007
"An easy and flexible online database application"
"Access and Filemaker are too complex," McAdams said. Trackvia combines the power of a database with Web-based features in one solution. Key features include Google-like search, formatted and filtered views, report distribution, permissions-based access, support of self-service Web-based forms and multi-user access.(click to read more...)

"Trackvia is latest entrant in Database 2.0 market"
And what do those customers -- what McAdams likes to call "ordinary people keeping track of stuff" -- want? Features such as easy-to-set-up feeding of data from Web forms into Trackvia, McAdams said, as well as permission and change control, "wicked fast" data search and de-duplication capabilities, Google ™ mapping of data, and easy export from Trackvia's MySQL-based back-end to customers' Excel spreadsheets…. Comments from Trackvia beta users who have signed on since last year appear to back up some of McAdams' bold claims.(click to read more...)

"Sharing Spreadsheets"
While there are some really good Internet-facing database programs, none of these are as easy to setup and manipulate as Trackvia.com, a service that has been out for the past year but recently gotten some much-needed improvements…. The company has been around for over a year and has some pretty impressive customers, including people that have built some very large databases.(click to read more...)

"Online database plus bells and whistle for $9.95 per month!"
There are several good databases such as Intuit's Quickbase, eUnifyDB, HyperOffice, and WebEx Office (the latter two have databases built into their virtual office platforms) but I haven't come across many databases that are as feature rich and extensive as Trackvia. ….it appears to be a VERY powerful tool that's priced precisely for small businesses and much better than many other online databases on the market.(click to read more...)
